MALANG, dpd.go.id – The Chairman of the DPD RI, AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti received a clarification of wild issues related to the number of victims of the Kanjuruhan tragedy, when meeting the Deputy Regent of Malang, Drs. Didik Gatot Subroto, S.H., M.H. at the Malang Regency Hall , East Java, Thursday (20/10/2022).
Several foreign media and social media said the number of fatalities after the Arema FC vs. Persebaya Surabaya match on October 1-2, 2022 reached more than 200 people.
The Deputy Regent of Malang said that the true number of fatalities was 133 people.
"The true death toll until the last update was 133 people. So if someone out there said the death toll was more than that, it is certainly not true," said Didik.
According to the Deputy Regent, if the death toll was more than the current one, there would automatically be protests and complaints from other victims. Because there is assistance from several parties received by the heirs.
"Logically, if there were more than 200 people who died, they would have screamed. Because there was assistance or compassion, which in total reached Rp115 million per head," he said.
The assistance, continued the Vice Regent, came from the central government, provincial governments, local governments (covering Malang City, Malang Regency, and Batu City).
"Not to mention the assistance from BAZNAS, Bank Jatim, Arema owner and members of the Malang electoral district," added Didik.
Didik also explained that the cost of treatment and care for the victims was borne by the local government and there had been instructions from the Regent.
"Indeed, of the victims who died, the largest number was from Malang Regency. Followed by residents of Malang City and Batu City. We are committed to the district government to bear all the costs of treating the victims," he said.
The chairman of the DPD RI appreciated the steps taken by the Malang Regency Government in the Kanjuruhan tragedy. He expressed his sorrow and concern at the same time hoped that the death toll would not increase again.
"I hope the victims who are still undergoing treatment at the hospital will soon be healthy again. We appreciate the hard efforts of the Regency Government in this regard," said LaNyalla. (*)
