JAKARTA, dpd.go.id- Committee I DPD RI said that the immigration office is the first and last institution that screens arrivals and departures of foreign nationals (WNA) to and from Indonesian territory. The implementation of this function is part of efforts to prevent immigration actions.

"We have made working visits to the Provinces of South Sumatra and East Java Provinces, where there are still various problems in monitoring foreigners such as the use of foreign workers, or various deportation actions to pro justitia against foreigners who commit violations," said Vice Chairman of the Committee I DPD RI Filep Wamafma when opening a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights at the DPD RI Building, Jakarta, Monday (1/16).

The DPD RI member from West Papua Province said that his party needed to get an explanation from the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights regarding the main issues in immigration. One of them concerns the issue of immigration services for people in the regions, as well as monitoring of traffic in and out of foreigners which has an impact on security. "For this reason, it is necessary to jointly develop a regional community empowerment model as an effort to contribute to meaningful participation in supporting immigration duties," he added.

Meanwhile, DPD RI Member from Central Sulawesi Province Abdul Rachman Thaha highlighted the conflict that occurred in North Morowali regarding foreign workers. His party admitted that they were not anti-investment, but the existence of the Job Creation Law resulted in impartiality towards the people.

"What happened in North Morowali, the state must be present for what was taken. This conflict demands from workers. Since the Covid-19 pandemic occurred, there has been an extraordinary flow of foreign workers, so I ask the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to take responsibility," he explained.

DPD RI member from South Sulawesi Province Ajiep Padindang said that based on the findings of Committee I DPD RI in the regions, there was still a lack of staff for making passports. For this reason, we propose to add personnel for making passports in the regions. "We are proposing additional personnel in the area. Besides that, it is also necessary to reduce the cost of making a passport," he said.

On the same occasion, Deputy Minister of Justice and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej explained that carrying out immigration duties is not easy because this is indeed an international cross-window. Then the objects are foreigners who enter and are in the territory of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

"There are many obstacles that are often faced, but this is normal because Indonesia's position is very strategic. Our geographic location is very broad because it will make it difficult to carry out surveillance both by land, sea and air. For our air it is not too difficult, but for sea waters which are very long so that the entry of foreigners is very difficult to monitor," added Omar Sharif.

In addition, referring to Law no. 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration, according to him this is related to investments that lead to people's welfare. However, they are still monitoring. "Meanwhile, for public services such as M-passport and e-visa, we have also implemented digitization. Because this is man-made, there are often problems in its application," concluded Omar Sharif.
