LaNyalla Warns Law Enforcement Against Tax Evaders

JAKARTA, dpd.go.id - The government plans to collect a tax of 35 percent from the rich and super rich or crazy rich in the country. This policy was also noticed by the Chairman of the DPD RI, AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti.

According to him, this policy must be escorted by law enforcement officers to suppress rogue officers who have the potential to evade taxes.

The senator from East Java said that if the rich and super-rich pay taxes according to the 35 percent provision, the State Budget will be a little helped.

"This is different from the imposition of taxes on groups of people who earn fifty million per year, it will be very easy to collect taxes," he said.

Since 2021, or since the pandemic, the number of wealthy Indonesians has jumped from 82,012 to 134,015 people. According to the Knight Frank report, wealth reaching US $ 30 million or around IDR 469.14 billion and above will reach 1,403 people in 2021.

This is in contrast to the condition of the poor who still earn under one million per month.

"Super-rich people in Indonesia continue to increase every year. Their position is not affected by the threat of a crisis. In fact, it is predicted that the super-rich will continue to grow until they reach 1,810 people in 2026," he explained.

Until now, the income data for the type of tax for the rich is only around 1.0 percent. Meanwhile, if viewed from the tax subject, it should have reached 15.68 percent.

"Therefore, the question is whether the government can realize the imposition of income tax rates or PPh for the super-rich in Indonesia by 35 percent?" asked LaNyalla.

This is because the plan to collect a tax for the super-rich of up to 35 percent becomes ambiguous if there are still tax mafia and tax officials colluding with tax evaders.

"Therefore, I encourage law enforcement efforts against tax evaders or parties who do not want to pay taxes," he said. (*)
