WEST PAPUA, dpd.go.id - West Papua Senator Dr. Filep Wamafma expressed his appreciation to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (MA) Prof. M. Syarifuddin for the trust entrusted to the native Papuan woman Berlinda Ursula Mayor, SH, LLM, MIR, as Head of the Class IB Manokwari District Court, West Papua.

"I really appreciate the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Mr. Syarifuddin, who has trusted the indigenous Papuan people, especially indigenous Papuan women, to carry out the mandate as Chief Justice of the Manokwari District Court. I am also proud of Ms. Berlinda's career achievements, I congratulate you on carrying out the mandate entrusted to you," said Filep, Wednesday (3/1/2023).

"This belief is certainly a momentum for the awakening of Papuan women, especially to continue to play an active role in public spaces. The figure of Mrs. Berlinda is of course also a motivation and inspiration for all Papuan women everywhere to continue to move forward and work according to their interests and competencies, and to show that Papuan women are able to play an active role in many fields apart from the domestic sphere," said the Deputy Chairman of Committee I DPD RI.

Furthermore, the West Papuan senator also encouraged women's empowerment in various sectors of life, be it education, social, economic, leadership, politics to health, including in preventing stunting and malnutrition in children.

"In the current era, more and more women are taking on roles in various sectors. In fact, we know that 6 percent of CEOs and board chairs in Indonesia are now filled by women. Many MSMEs grow, develop and progress are also driven by women. This is proof that women's leadership and pioneering can have a positive impact on the environment," she said.

Apart from that, Filep believes that women are very extraordinary figures, especially their role as the key to building the nation's civilization. That is, it is from the womb of women that many great generations are born, raised and educated as best they can to become the next generation and even become leaders in the future.

"Women, mothers are the determinants of the nation's civilization. Mother is the first place of education for her children, instills the first knowledge, leads to good things. Of course, the role of women is also very much needed in the public space, involved in making important decisions in various matters. Like Mrs. Berlinda, she plays a very important role in upholding law and justice in West Papua," said Filep.

As is known, Berlinda Ursula Mayor will be sworn in and take her oath of office as Chair of the Class IB Manokwari District Court, on Wednesday, January 4 2023 tomorrow at the Aston Niu Hotel Manokwari Ballroom.

The Papuan woman who was born in Jayapura, December 4, 1974 previously served as Deputy Chair of the Manokwari District Court. Berlinda has also served as Head of the District Court in Papua, in Wamena to be precise, replacing Timotius Djemey and was sworn in on November 18, 2013.

Berlinda, who initially dreamed of becoming a nurse or nurse in a hospital, was determined to become a judge because she was motivated by the struggle of her parents, namely the late Efraim Major, who was the first high-ranking judge and judge for the sons of Papua. The figure of a father who persistently fought for justice and raised a generation of native Papuan judges encouraged Berlinda to decide to continue her father's struggle to this day. (*)
