dpd.go.id - Vice Chairman of the House of Regional Representatives (DPD) RI Sultan B. Najamudin encouraged member countries of the Islamic Conference Organization (OIC) to increase cooperation in the agricultural and financial sectors.

This was conveyed by Sultan while attending the opening ceremony of the Higher Assembly Forum meeting which was attended by 15 member countries of the OIC at the Merdeka Building, Bandung, West Java, on Tuesday (25/10).

"We know that the hunger and health crisis will be the issues we will talk about most often in the future. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the world then faces a climate and geopolitical crisis that has a real impact on human life at large," said Sultan through his official statement.

According to him, the Parliaments of OIC member countries should have the same attention on the food, pharmaceutical, and financial sectors. This is important considering that we as Muslims have sharia standards, namely the halalness of every food ingredient and pharmaceutical product. Also of course in the financial system.

We encourage the governments of OIC member countries to start building co-financing schemes for the sector. To ensure the availability of halal food and pharmaceutical ingredients, OIC member countries must become major players in the world food and pharmaceutical market.

So that we OIC member countries are able to control and ensure that all food and pharmaceutical products are believed to be safe and halal for consumption by the world's Muslims. The OIC Parliament has a moral responsibility to formulate policies in each country.

We have Morocco which is the owner of 70 percent of Phosphate reserves as the main raw material for world fertilizers. And Indonesia as the owner of biodiversity has more than hundreds of thousands of types of food plants and biopharmaceuticals. Let us work together to break the chain of poverty and hunger in developing countries in Asia and Africa. (*)
