JAKARTA, dpd.go.id - Committee III DPD RI held a working meeting with the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, Tuesday, January 17 2023.

The working meeting was attended by the Chairman of Committee III DPD RI Hasan Basri, Members of Committee III DPD RI, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf RI) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno, Deputy Minister for Tourism and Creative Economy Angela Herliani Tanoesoedibjo, Echelon 1 and Echelon II Officials along with the ranks of the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy.

The work meeting activities were carried out physically at the Parliament Building, Senayan, Jakarta.

The agenda for this working meeting discussed the Realization of the 2022 Work Program and the Work Plan of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia for 2023, as well as the Establishment and Development of five Super Priority Destinations and their impact on the Economy and Welfare of the surrounding community.

The tourism sector is one of the businesses most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Based on data from the World Tourism Organization, the number of tourist visits worldwide has decreased by 44% during the pandemic.

This statement was made by Hasan Basri when opening and chairing a work meeting.

In addition, through his remarks, Hasan Basri conveyed that currently, diversity, beauty and natural and cultural charm should not make it difficult for Indonesia to create various types, shapes and forms of tourist destinations that are worth selling.

"But in fact, if we look at it for decades, the name Bali as a tourist destination has gone global, and is more global than other tourist destinations in Indonesia," said Hasan Basri.

He also said that in recent years the government has begun to devote time and energy to developing and building a number of other tourist destinations outside Bali.

"Currently we have 5 (five) Super Priority Destinations, consisting of Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Borobudur in Central Java, Mandalika in NTB, Labuan Bajo in NTT, and Likupang in North Sulawesi, which God willing, can boost the Indonesian tourism industry in the future and restore economic conditions in Indonesia," explained Hasan Basri.

Hasan Basri, who is familiarly called HB, also said that of the five super priority destinations, there was still a lack of infrastructure facilities.

On the other hand, Hasan Basri also said that in his homeland, North Kalimantan, he experienced similar problems.

"In North Kalimantan, currently the lack of infrastructure development leading to tourism objects is an obstacle. For example, in Tarakan City, Amal Beach, Bulungan Regency, Bulungan Sultanate Museum, Tana Tidung Regency, Mount Rian Waterfall Tourism, Nunukan Regency, Long Bawan, Malinau Regency, Setulang Tourism Village, Kayan Mentarang and others,” Hasan Basri said.

"Through this forum, we will of course try to find the best way with our partners, namely the Ministry of Tourism. But because of this there are also infrastructure problems that are not the domain of the Ministry of Tourism, but God willing, we will try to work together to communicate with the relevant ministries, namely the Ministry of PUPR and Transportation,” Hasan Basri said.

The senator from North Kalimantan also emphasized that the construction of infrastructure facilities is not complicated and difficult.

Because, according to him, tourist destinations are the main thing at this time. By improving infrastructure facilities, this will also have an impact on increasing economic value for the people of Indonesia, especially for people in North Kalimantan.

Furthermore, Chairman of Committee III DPD RI Hasan Basri, stated that he would provide full support to the Government to build infrastructure and transportation facilities in 5 National Tourism Strategic Areas (KSPN).

However, Hasan Basri also asked the Government to ensure that the construction of transportation infrastructure and facilities in the five KSPNs was completed on time, on target and operated professionally according to service standards, in order to increase foreign exchange earnings, regional income, regional development, increase investment, employment and business development.

Apart from other things, the Chairman of Committee III DPD RI Hasan Basri appreciated the performance of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy throughout 2022. He also supports the increase in the budget for the coming year.

Apart from that, the Indonesian Menparekraf Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno is also willing to review and make a visit to North Kalimantan to see the existing tourism potential. (**)
