SURABAYA, dpd.go.id - The death of a family as a result of being hit by a train at a rail crossing without a doorstop in Pasuruan Regency, East Java, saddened the Chairman of the DPD RI, AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti.

He hopes that the tragic events that occurred at the turn of the 2023 New Year will trigger PT KAI and the local government to find a solution to reduce vehicle accidents that cross the train tracks.

"I ask that this problem be discussed jointly between the local regency government and PT KAI, so that they find a solution to minimize accident victims at train crossings," said LaNyalla who was in recess in East Java, Wednesday (4/1/2023).

According to him, it is also necessary to discuss the arrangement of railroad tracks on dangerous routes. Because, if not, level railroad crossings will always be misused.

"Actually, the train track already has regulations. Of course, that must be prioritized, but it doesn't harm the local community or those who usually pass by," he explained.

The Bugis man who grew up in Surabaya encouraged PT KAI to check train crossings that had no gates throughout the East Java region. This effort is important in order to provide a sense of security to road users. Especially considering the vulnerability that causes frequent accidents.

"Every railroad crossing must be equipped with crossing gates and signs as markers. Crossing areas must also be equipped with sufficient lighting," he said again.

Previously, Saturday (31/12/2022) at 19.00 WIB, a family from Kebonsari Sub-District, Pasuruan Regency, East Java was killed by the Tawangalun Train at the Rejoso crossing, Pasuruan Regency. The incident occurred at 19.00 WIB.

The five victims were Muhammad Said (40), his wife Mina Komariyah (33) and their three children Anisah Choiril Waro (12), Atikatul Himmah (7) and Muhammad Faizin (4).

Meanwhile, his eldest son, M Soleh Marzuki (15), who is currently studying at the Islamic boarding school, has become an orphan.(*)
