JAKARTA, dpd.go.id - The Chairman of the DPD RI, AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti asks higher education institutions to implement their scientific disciplines as a solution to social problems in society.

According to LaNyalla, innovation and direct implementation of the knowledge learned on campus should benefit the community immediately.

"So, I encourage campuses to implement their knowledge as a solution to social problems faced by society. I believe they are capable," said LaNyalla, Thursday (5/1/2023).

The senator from East Java continued, when campuses are able to explore science and produce many scientists, social problems can be solved.

One of them is innovation produced by the Surabaya Institute of Technology (ITS) Sepuluh Nopember which is part of the Aksanawa design team. They succeeded in designing an Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) ship to facilitate the search for victims of sea accidents.

"That is an example of the implementation of science which is immediately poured into a concrete form," said LaNyalla.

Therefore, this Bugis figure who grew up in Surabaya encouraged each campus to be able to innovate and implement knowledge into concrete steps that benefit society.

"For example, we face a disaster caused by high rain intensity. Scientists can conduct research that is capable of creating flood management breakthroughs," said LaNyalla giving an example.

LaNyalla believes that if every campus is able to realize innovation and create the various technologies needed, then the social problems that we face will be solved one by one.

"I think we can overcome the social problems we face as long as the scientists on campus are given space to find solutions," he said. (*)
