SURABAYA, dpd.go.id- The high waves made fishermen in East Java choose not to go to sea. As a result, fishermen have no income. The supply of fish was reduced and the price increased.
This condition makes the Chairman of the DPD RI, AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti, concerned. He encouraged cooperatives to be formed to accommodate the interests of fishermen.
"It seems that it is necessary to establish a cooperative that accommodates fish catches with a fish saving model financial system. So that when fishermen cannot go to sea they can take money from their previous catch for their living needs," said LaNyalla, during a recess in East Java, Tuesday (3/3). 1/2023).
LaNyalla said fishermen's lives were greatly affected by natural conditions. There are seasons when they cannot fish and have no income.
"This condition makes it difficult for fishermen's living standards to be improved. Therefore, it is necessary to change the pattern of managing fish catches. One of them is forming cooperatives," he said.
He explained, with cooperatives, fish prices become stable even in bad weather. Fish is kept in cold storage for supply during high wave season.
"So fishermen and consumers still benefit. So far, if the catch is more, the price of fish from fishermen tends to fall. In the end, fishermen do not benefit from their catch," he explained. (*)
