JAKARTA, dpd.go.id - Committee III DPD RI held a Public Hearing Meeting (RDPU) regarding the inventory of materials for drafting DPD RI views on the Mothers and Children’s Welfare Bill (KIA), Monday (16/01/2023) at the DPD RI Building, Jakarta. Regarding the DPR RI initiative bill, the DPD RI welcomed the existence of the bill because it can produce solutions to the problems of mothers and children that have been happening in Indonesia.
"DPD RI views that this bill must be seriously examined considering that there are many other fields related to the welfare of mothers and children such as health, education, employment, population and religion, so that a legal political foundation is needed to improve the welfare of mothers and children," said Deputy Chair of Committee III DPD RI Muslim M Yatim.
In the RDPU, Professor of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) Euis Sunarti said that in the MCW Bill, it must be able to regulate the realization of family resilience. According to him, family resilience is the basis for realizing the welfare of mothers and children.
"In my opinion, if you want to compile it (the Bill on Mothers and Children’s Welfare), I see that the articles are still too individual in spirit. Currently the articles only regulate mothers and childrens. The family should be seen as a system in realizing family resilience," said Euis who is also the Chair of the National Coalition for the Protection of Indonesian Families.
Meanwhile, Member of the DPD RI from West Papua Yance Samonsabra hopes that the MCW Bill can better regulate the rights of a mother, such as the right to maternity leave or obtaining salary while on maternity leave. According to him, so far this right has not been implemented by the private sector.
“Many mothers who give birth, take leave, but their salary is cut. In this bill there needs to be a stipulation that this is not only for the government, but also private parties. Don't let this law be selective," he said.
DPD RI member from West Java, Amang Syarifudin, considers that this bill must regulate family education, especially for children. Education can help build family resilience.
"In the law it is necessary to emphasize the role of education and the collaboration of related ministries to develop education in realizing family welfare," said Amang.
DPD RI member from Bengkulu Eni Khaerani said that the local community supports the MCW Bill being immediately discussed and ratified as a law. Many local people have pinned their hopes on the MCW Bill.
"They are very happy about this. Their hope is that this law will be discussed in a comprehensive manner. Because this bill is considered to be able to improve people's lives and welfare," said Eni.**ars
