SURABAYA, dpd.go.id - Chairman of the DPD RI, AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti, criticized efforts to improve the rural economic sector through the tourism sector.

According to LaNyalla, this is not too significant. And it makes more sense if the village economy is increased through the agricultural sector.

The senator from East Java said that the village's economy was not boosted much through the tourism sector.

"And the fact that happened in the field, village tourism has not been much successful in creating the rural economy. This means that the effort must be re-examined. Because the impact is not very significant," he said, during a working visit to Surabaya, Monday (23/1/2023).

He explained, there are several obstacles encountered by village communities if they want to create an economy through the tourism sector.

"Difficulties in managing the tourism business and creating innovations are obstacles that are not easy to find a way out of.

Coupled with the problems of development and provision of basic facilities such as toilets and security. So it's not easy," he said.

The man who once served as General Chair of PSSI said the village needed more concrete policies and appropriate steps to revive the village economy.

“Most of the vulnerable people live in rural areas. Thus, the sectors that make the most sense to be developed there are agriculture and animal husbandry. And this is also in accordance with their expertise, “he said.

LaNyalla added, what should be a concern is how the agriculture and livestock sector can be boosted by the village government.

“How can the village increase crop yields and increase livestock production. Not only that, think about how the village community can produce processed products from their livelihood so that they have more income. And this makes more sense," he said.

According to him, village people should not leave the agricultural sector and switch to other sectors such as tourism.

“In agriculture and animal husbandry, they have basic skills and just need to complement them. Meanwhile in tourism, they have to start from zero and still have to be supported by infrastructure and this also requires a lot of money," he said. (*)
