dpd.go.id - Vice Chairman of DPD RI, Mahyudin received an audience with the Princess of East Kalimantan 2022 Education, Octa Trifiany regarding efforts to preserve Erau's culture, by making it an Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) or Intangible Cultural Heritage at UNESCO. According to Mahyudin, the efforts of the young people of East Kalimantan, represented by Octa Trifiany, are very positive and must be supported by all those who love local culture.

"The preservation of Erau culture must be supported, because one of the attractions of East Kalimantan, especially in Kutai Kartanegara, is the traditional Erau party. With the preservation of the Erau custom, it is hoped that it will become one of the cultural characteristics of East Kalimantan," he said, in a statement, Thursday (2/01/2023).

The senator from East Kalimantan also asked the local government to support the struggle to preserve Erau culture in East Kalimantan. Mahyudin added, as a province that is home to the National Capital (IKN) of the Archipelago, the international world's recognition through UNESCO of Erau's culture is a matter of pride.

"As fellow citizens of East Kalimantan, of course we are very proud if Erau's culture is recognized not only domestically but also internationally. Moreover, Erau's culture is very appropriate if it is recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage, considering that Erau is often paired with a number of International Folklore Festivals coordinated by UNESCO," he said.

In line with that, Octa Trifiany in the audience also said the importance of preserving local culture like Erau. He also hopes that East Kalimantan will not only be known as the province that houses the Archipelago's Capital, but also as a place rich in local culture.

"For this reason, various local cultures in East Kalimantan, such as the Erau culture, must be preserved. So, through UNESCO recognition, it is hoped that we can all preserve and Erau culture can be passed on to the next younger generations," he said.

Octa, who is also a UNESCO ambassador, was also pleased with the positive response from the leadership of the DPD RI, Mahyudin, as well as a senator from East Kalimantan for the preservation of Erau's culture. According to him, support from various groups will be an encouragement in the struggle to introduce Erau culture at the international level.

"We are very pleased with the support from the DPD leadership, in this case Mr. Mahyudin. For us, it is an honor and an honor to bring Erau's culture to be known not only by local residents, it is hoped that international people will also appreciate it," he said.(*)
