As a Follow up on Crab Fisherman Reports, Haji Uma Asks for Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Regulation Number 16 of 2022 to be Reviewed

LANGSA, dpd.go.id - DPD RI member from Aceh H. Sudirman who is commonly known as Haji Uma received a complaint from the Association of Mangrove Crab Fishermen in Langsa City, regarding the issuance of Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Regulation (Permen KP) Number 16 of 2022, Sunday (08/01) /2023).

Permen KP Number 16 of 2022 especially in article 8 paragraph (1) concerning catching, traffic and/or export of crabs, in point b, more specifically regulates the matter of the size of crabs that may be caught or sent or exported, which size must be 12 cm to on each tail.

Because Hamdani Latif as chairman of the association of mangrove crab fishermen in Langsa city, especially in Langsa hopes that Haji Uma will be able to clarify regarding the rules issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries which are considered to be detrimental to crab fishermen. Friday (06/01/2023) when meeting Haji Uma during a recess visit in Langsa City.

"With the issuance of Permen KP Number 16 of 2022, it can be miserable for us, crab fishermen and crab entrepreneurs, because the rule is considered one-sided, without looking at the condition or character of the crabs in each region, especially in the city of Langsa," said Hamdani Latif.

He continued, "We hope that Mr. Haji Uma can convey our aspirations to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries to review the Ministerial Regulations that have been issued and we hope to involve the coastal community when we want to make a regulation and not make unilateral decisions that can harm us mangrove crab farmers," he hoped.

Haji Uma himself responded to the complaints of the mangrove crab fishermen, he promised to forward their aspirations to the relevant ministries.

"Insha Allah, we have received the petition letter from them, we will continue this inspiration and discuss it with Committee II DPD RI later in Jakarta for follow-up to the Indonesian Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries," said Haji Uma.

He continued, "Given that the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries partners are in Committee II, but constitutionally we are still fighting for these aspirations together, even though I am currently in Committee IV," explained Haji Uma.

Haji Uma also said that regarding the issuance of Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Regulation number 16 of 2022, this must be reviewed.

"Considering that every crab in urban districts in Indonesia has a different shape and size, this regulation must also be reviewed which has been issued by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries so that social inequality does not occur among coastal communities in particular," added Haji Uma.

Meanwhile, a member of the DPRK Kota Langsa Zulkifli from the Aceh Party also said that previously the Mangrove Crab Fishermen's Association had complained to them about the issue of the Candy issued by the Ministry of KP.

"We have responded to and held hearings with crab fishermen from Langsa City and we have even written to the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries stating that this regulation is very burdensome for Acehnese fishermen, especially the coastal communities nationally," said Member of the DPRK for Langsa City, Zulkifli.

He continued, "We also asked the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries to review the rules that have been issued and we also asked the Aceh Senator, Mr. H Sudirman, to fight for the fate of fishermen in coastal areas, together," he concluded. (*)
